Aimed at dance artists graduating or reaching the end of their professional training, DanceEast’s Summer Lab is the perfect opportunity to develop and extend graduates’ learning and development during a three-day intensive at the Jerwood DanceHouse on the Ipswich waterfront from Monday 4 – Wednesday 6 September.
Leading professional dance artists will be delivering a wealth of opportunities for participants through high quality, aspirational workshops and seminars; Russell Maliphant, Yael Flexer, Renaud Wiser, Vicki Igbokwe, Tom Hobden and Stuart Waters will all be involved, in addition to staff from DanceEast and StartEast, a business support and grants programme for creative people planning to develop and grow a cultural business in Suffolk and/or Norfolk.
Each professional dance artist will lead daily sessions, including dance technique classes and creative workshops, in addition to focusing on helping participants build a professional network, secure funding for future work and marketing their portfolio careers. Over three days of invaluable content and advice, Summer Lab aims to bridge the gap in provision between professional dance training and helping young dance artists become career-ready.
Through Summer Lab participants can experience first-hand what it means to live and work as a professional in the dance industry, whilst networking with this impressive range of high calibre dance artists and sector professionals connected to the east of England. Summer Lab is an integral part of DanceEast’s work in contributing to the infrastructure of dance, connecting graduates to the regional dance scene in Suffolk. It will also help participants build a vibrant network to aid their future work within the industry, and establish a thriving community of dancers living and working in the East.
Summer Lab, facilitated by DanceEast, is led in partnership with UNIT, the East’s leading participatory dance company. UNIT is headed by choreographer Tom Hobden and film director Kate Flurrie, creating projects, performances, and training programmes that support dancers from all backgrounds and experiences. Mentoring support will also be offered throughout Summer Lab, and afterwards, by Tom Hobden.
DanceEast’s Summer Lab will take place at Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich between Monday 4th to Wednesday 6th September, 9.15am – 6.00pm. Cost: £100.
