Arguably better known in Chicago and Cleveland than in his native Norfolk, Dave Thomas returns to recording after a ten year lay-off with an album where ‘the blues groove never leaves’.
‘LIVE at the FAT CAT’ is a ten-track album that showcases Dave – deep in the blues, funked up and easy. Catch the best that a live album offers. It’s a great introduction to what you’ll get when you see the band play live.
Dave’s last studio release was the double CD with Robert Jr Lockwood’s only harp player, Wallace Cole-man, called ‘Repossession Blues’. Ten years on, and with his reputation as a live blues musician well established this album is the opening salvo of what should become a trilogy of releases before the year is out.
Dave and band member Hugh Gregory originally formed ‘Shortstuff’ in the 1970’s. Look out for their album ‘BIG BLUE’ later this year combining tracks old and new.
In preparation is a studio album of brand new material. Dave is also working with Dave Greenslade of ‘Greenslade’ and ‘Jon Hiseman’s Colosseum’ on a joint album of original material. He is also returning to Chicago and Cleveland this summer to play once again at the Chicago Blues Festival, plus some special dates in Cleveland, so who knows what the final guest artist list will look like!
Meanwhile give yourself ‘full immersion therapy’ with ‘a blues overdose’. Whether it’s ‘kick off or kick back’, ‘LIVE at the FAT CAT’ fits the bill.
In support of the new album, The Dave Thomas Band will be at the Fisher Theatre, Bungay on Friday 1st September, 7.30pm.
Tickets: £10 (adv), £12 (door). For more information or to book, call the box office on 01986 897130 or visit www.fishertheatre.org.
