Roma gives £4,000!
Singer songwriter Roma Manteiga Nicholson (aged 12), presented a cheque for £4,000 to Julia Hancock business manager at Selig Suffolk, who run the Ipswich winter night shelter for the homeless, at a charity concert last Saturday night where she performed alongside Dean Vinyard, Diamond Vocal, Bobby Crowhurst and rock band Hoaxx.
Roma released a charity EP CD called “Welcome to the Waterfront” in June and through sales, downloads and performances, she doubled her original target of £2,000.
The Stagecoach performing arts student, decided to fund-raise for the Ipswich Winter Night Shelter for the homeless after her mum volunteered there last year. Roma comments:
“I’m very proud of my mum for volunteering, she suffers from anxiety so it’s a really big thing for her to do and the shelter offer hope to the homeless especially when it’s so cold in winter”
Roma who is no stranger to performing; having worked in panto at the Ipswich Regent with the late Paul Daniels, and as young Princess Fiona in the UK tour of Shrek the Musical when she was 10. She has recently sailed into the grand final of Open Mic UK: Songwriters Competition at the NEC in January 2018, where she will sing her original song Father from her EP – of which her YouTube music video for the song has already received over 24,000 views.
As just one of six finalists and the youngest in this prestigious competition, she has fought off thousands of entries to gain her much deserved final place. Artists like Luke Friend and Birdy are previous winners, with Birdy being the same age as Roma when she won in 2008; therefore Roma stands a good chance, and will be flying the flag for Suffolk.
Roma will be launching an album in 2018, collaborating with local musicians and will continue fundraising for local charities. She adds:
“Suffolk has so many talented musicians and singers – I cant wait to start working with them to produce a really special collection of original songs next year”
The Ipswich Winter Night Shelter for the Homeless opens this Wednesday, on 29th November and runs until March 2018.
