What a fantastic evening of entertainment, Sunset Boulevard is a show I have wanted to see for a long time, and it did not disappoint. The cast and staging are great, and even though Danny Mac was unable to perform due to illness, Dougie Carter stepped up to play the part of Joe Gillis and did an amazing job. A huge round of applause to the understudies who keep the shows going. Danny should be back on the stage today though!
The story of Sunset Boulevard is of a struggling writer trying to earn some money when his path crosses with an actress, Norma Desmond, who was in the silent movies and struggled with the advancement into movies with sound. She wants Joe to help her with a screenplay she has written, and uses various ways to keep him at the house. The plot evolves, and Joe falls in love with another writer… the rest you will have to find out!
The show has some amazing vocals in it from Ria Jones (Norma Desmond), Dougie Carter (Joe Gillis), Adam Pearce (Max Von Meyerling) and Molly Lynch (Betty Schaefer). The songs sung by the whole cast leave you in no doubt that they are all very talented individuals.
The set works well within the space, from studio, to house, and back again. The projected images show the power and presence of the silent movies.
Don’t miss the chance to see a brilliant West End show in your local theatre…
