Alexandra Burke is returning to the starring role of Rachel Marron when the stage hit The Bodyguard comes back to Norwich Theatre Royal next year.

Following her hugely successful run in the show in both the West End and a previous UK tour, she is set to reprise it at all evening performances when the show takes to the stage in the city from April 30 to May 11.

Alexandra rose to fame after winning the fifth series of The X Factor and her debut number one single Hallelujah ended up selling over one million copies in the UK, a first for a British female soloist.

She is also no stranger to the stage recently appearing as Svetlana in Chess at the London Coliseum and is about to take on the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End. Alexandra also played Deloris Van Cartier in the hugely popular national tour of Sister Act which also came to Norwich Theatre Royal.

The Bodyguard will see her portray superstar Rachel Marron who is the victim of an unknown stalker and hires former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer to protect her. Both of them want to be in control but what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

The romantic thriller features a host of classic Whitney Houston songs including Queen of the Night, One Moment In Time, Saving All My Love For You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and the iconic love song I Will Always Love You.

Based on the 1992 Oscar-nominated movie which starred Whitney and Kevin Costner, the show had its world premiere at London’s Adelphi Theatre in 2017 and was nominated for four Olivier Awards. A sell-out 18-month tour of the UK and Ireland followed before it returned to the Dominion Theatre in the West End.

The show has also been performed worldwide in the likes of the Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Italy, Australia and an American tour.

John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said: “Alexandra Burke’s extraordinary ring presence and spine-tingling vocal range make her performance a must-see. The show mixes drama, the discovery of love when it is least expected and the chance to revisit some of Whitney Houston’s best-loved songs, and this combination will make The Bodyguard one of 2019’s must-see shows.”

The Bodyguard is at the Norwich Theatre Royal from Tuesday 30th April-Saturday 11th May at 7.30pm, and Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. Please note there are no Sunday performances.
