Matt Schofield

14 DATE TOUR BY RISING INTERNATIONAL STAR OF THE BLUES

Playing at Colchester Arts Centre, Wednesday 23rd November

HOT FROM A 50 DATE TOUR OF THE USA - Manchester-born guitarist/singer/songwriter Matt Schofield is now firmly established as the freshest and most exciting blues guitarist to have emerged on the world scene for many years. He is ranked in the top ten British blues guitarists of all time by Guitar & Bass Magazine, putting him in the company of such iconic names as Eric Clapton.

Matt Schofield trioHe is back to tour in the UK & Europe after spending most of the year playing as far afield as the US West Coast and India, promoting his latest CD Anything But Time. The album is produced by John Porter, legendary for his work with Buddy Guy, BB King, Taj Mahal, and Santana to name just a few, and no less than 10 Grammy winning albums.

In his relatively short career (he is just 34), Schofield’s talent has taken his band to 22 countries and brought him high praise in the Penguin Book of Blues Recordings as one of only two living British artists in recording history to gain a maximum four-star rating. He was recently voted Guitarist of the Year for the second year running in the British Blues Awards. The same double distinction went to Matt’s keyboard player.

Schofield’s powerful mix of Blues, rock and New Orleans funk is unlike anything else on the block. His band comprises long-term compatriot Jonny Henderson (Hammond organ & left-hand bass) and American Kevin Hayes on drums, who has a long list of touring and recording credits including Robert Cray, Johh Lee Hooker, BB King, Albert Collins and Van Morrison.

Before starting his UK tour Matt will be playing at the Cadogan Hall in London on Oct. 22 as part of Blues for Heroes, a fund raiser for wounded serviceman with all proceeds going to the Help for Heroes charity.

Along the way, he will be stopping off at the British Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) in Brighton to give a masterclass on Nov. 11. A selected guitarist from BIMM will be invited to join Matt on stage at his show that night in Brighton at the Concorde2.

Matt taught himself to play guitar from the age of ten with few aids except for the ubiquitous Hal Leonard Guitar Method book. It all came full circle last year when he was invited by Hal Leonard, the world’s largest music print publishers, to film a DVD about his approach to playing guitar. Blues Guitar Artistry by Matt Schofield is now one of Hal Leonard’s best selling guitar DVDs.
