Well, put it this way, if we’re going to have to put up with our husbands growing dodgy beards this Movember all in the name of laziness, sorry, charity, then we’d better put dates in the diary to get out of the house, meet up with the gals, celebrate the sisterhood and become involved in an activity which allows the mind to travel to a place way beyond razors and combs. And we’re in luck.
November is a pretty good month for high profile entertainment if one is of a classical & crossover bent. TV’s favourite choirmaster Gareth Malone is coming to Snape on Thursday 16th for ‘An Evening With…’ at 7.30pm. The crossover boys ‘Collabro’ of Britain’s Got Talent fame will be in the Ipswich Regent the week before on Thursday 9th for a night of spine-tingling broadway-tastic popera (and eye candy…they will almost certainly be sporting some kind of facial-hair-type-thing but possibly more of the designer variety). And Sheku. Yes, Sheku. Just as we have Kylie. And Beyoncé. So we welcome Sheku (surely to be a big brand) on 25th November to the Ipswich Corn Exchange. This is a highly anticipated appearance by last year’s winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, so if you can grab a ticket, go grab. He plays the Shostakovitch Cello Concerto with the Ipswich Symphony Orchestra at 7.30pm and will give a talk to the under 18s beforehand. Star that he is.
Elsewhere in the county the Trio Con Brio Copenhagen come to East Bergholt on 12th; 2 Double Basses perform a pre-lunch recital at His Lordship’s Library in the Orwell Hotel, Felixstowe on 15th; Hadleigh Choral Society sing Rossini and Verdi on 18th in St Mary’s Church, Hadleigh; and if you’re anywhere near Snape that night, do welcome in the first of four Messiahs this season which takes place at 7pm courtesy of Aldeburgh Music Club.
Ladies: I look forward to catching up with you this month at these exciting events. Movember Men: you’re all very welcome to join us. Please wear a balaclava.
