Women’s Hour is presented by Sh!t Theatre, and was showcased at The New Wolsey Studio on day 6 of Pulse Festival.
It’s proved itself popular, as it’s been commissioned by Camden People’s Theatre, won the Three Weeks Editors Choice award (2015) and has been on tour.
It’s described simply as “a cabaret piece about what happens when women are given an hour a day to think about being a woman”.
And that it was indeed. It gave a highly humorous insight into topical feminist issues from the likes of shoes, the tampon tax, gender specific chocolate eggs, advertising, the pay gap, sex and more.
These two ladies did a stellar job of mixing theatre, spoken word, music and comedy all into one hour (about women!).
The audience thrived on their energy, graphics and natural comedy. As well as their sheer honesty in the topics touched on.
Though I admit this is somewhat hard to review because I imagine it changes slightly with new breakthroughs of the topical issues, as well as the fact I wouldn’t want to give too much away.
But what I can say is that I left with a smile on my face. after being highly entertained for the hour. Their energy is infectious, the topics are touching (and somewhat wild) and the laughs are guaranteed. If you’re not afraid of feminism (which by the way, simply means; a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes), you have to see this show!
