A team of young people are exploring how they and their peers see the future as they present their own mini-festival.
It is being put together by the Norwich Theatre Royal Young Producers, a group of 16-25 year-olds who receive training opportunities in theatre technical skills, stage management, marketing and events organisation.
They have been given the chance to programme a weekend of events within the theatre’s Stage Two building and chose the theme Facing The Future, which will allow them to show different ways of reflecting how they see the months and years ahead.
It will begin with an Open Mic Night on Saturday November 17 at 7.30pm where young people will be invited to use a range of genres to highlight their views of the future. They can use comedy, performance, music or speech to celebrate their creativity and share their viewpoint.
The following evening at 7.30pm, there will be an evening of short plays. Although the full list is still being worked on, the Young Producers want to present pieces that are either created by young people or have a particular resonance for that audience.
In addition, there will be a free exhibition across the three days which will also reflect the festival’s theme and celebrate a range of different art-forms.
Samantha Patel, the theatre’s community participation manager, said: “This is our inaugural Young Producers festival and we are really grateful to have the space within Stage Two for the whole weekend. The organising team are working really hard on the event and we are looking forward to this celebration of young people’s artistic talents. The Young Producers also decided they wanted the festival to be affordable and open to everyone so there will be a pay-what-you-can option with tickets priced at £3, £5 and £7.”
