On Saturday 3 November, St Michael’s Church, Martlesham Heath was the venue for a rare concert, where 10 cellists from the Ipswich Symphony Orchestra, performing as StrictlyCello, played to an audience of approaching 80 people. Ian France, a well-known tenor in the area, also sang a variety of songs accompanied by Graham Elliston on the piano.
This was a free concert, with a retiring collection in aid of the Prison Fellowship’s “Angel Tree” project. Monies raised will be used to purchase, and post, Christmas presents (along with a card from the absent parent),to children all over the country whose parents will be serving prison terms during the Christmas period. Graham Eldridge, a member of the local branch of Prison Fellowship, gave a brief but deep insight into the charity.
Whether it was the brilliance of the performers, the talk about the sadness of the families of prisoners at Christmas, or the home made biscuits, just over £700 was raised by the audience and friends.
