Now in its 11th year, this years Bury Songwriters Competition is culminating in the Grand Final at the Constitutional Club on Friday May 3rd
Sixteen acts from across East Anglia have entered their original song into the competition and now ten have been chosen from four heats to perform at the final.
This years finalists are:
Christopher James who made it onto team Olly in The Voice 2018, Cambridges’ The Broccoli King, Saxmundham’s Leon O’Leary, Mundham rapper Shadley Harris, Norwich acts Selina Hawker and Exploits, Anna Carter, and from Bury St Edmunds Matt Reaction , Aleks Michalewicz and Josie Bryan with a guest appearance from last years runner up Phoebe Austin.

“This year is the rise of the producer. Vocalists and producers are reaching out to each other more to collaborate and we are finding people who cannot play instruments finding their voice easier than in previous generations. The genres and styles of music coming through the area is as diverse as ever”
The Competition has a rich history of having acts pass through who have gone on to carve out impressive careers in the Music Industry. Previous Alumni include Alex Highton who produced three critically acclaimed albums and can count Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher as a fan, Stephen Barker who with his Mirror Signal had many Radio 1 plays and was chosed to represent the BBC at the Vancouver Jazz Festival, Simon Lucas Hughes who with Frett and Amythysts has created an ethereal and beautiful soundscape and none other than Ed Sheeran.
