A world of sunshine and laughter is guaranteed this autumn as a legendary comedy double act are brought to life in a smile-filled show.
An Evening Of Eric And Ern captures the brilliance of Morecambe and Wise in a show which is packed full of some of their best routines.
From Grieg’s piano concerto to Mr Memory, a host of the pair’s classic moments enjoyed by millions of viewers huddled around the TV set are featured in the show at Norwich Playhouse on September 13.
Portraying the pair are Ian Ashpitel and Jonty Stephens who first met at drama school back in 1983. Their shared sense of humour and bond of friendship plus Jonty’s brilliant impressions of Morecambe fired up the impetus to create a show about the legendary comedy double act.
They came up with the idea of an Eric and Ern show at the Edinburgh Fringe. It enjoyed rave reviews and a sell-out run before heading to the Vaudeville Theatre in the West End.
A further tour and a Christmas run at the St James Theatre in London plus an Olivier Award-nomination followed.
The pair then opted to create a more concert-style show which is the production coming to the Playhouse.
John Bultitude, of Norwich Playhouse, said: “Whether you grew up with him or have enjoyed the many popular repeats of their work, Morecambe and Wise’s distinctive humour always put a smile on people’s faces.
“This show is the perfect opportunity to revisit some classic comedy and rediscover what made the duo a must-see on the nation’s small screens.”
An Evening of Eric and Ern, Friday 13 Sept at 8pm. Tickets £22, and £20 concessions.
