From The Monkees in the 60’s, to Take That in the 90’s, and now the teen sensations BTS – the ubiquitous boy band has been around for more than seventy years.

But during the last decade, one in particular has stood apart from all the others; with melodic harmonies and silky vocals, the quartet Collabro have entertained audiences the world over since they shot to fame in 2014 as winners of the eight series of the popular UK talent show, Britain’s Got Talent.

Now hailed as ‘The World’s No.1 Musical Theatre Group’, these four very talented guys: Michael Auger, Jamie Lambert, Matt Pagan and Thomas Redgrave wowed the audience at Ipswich Regent with a spectacular show which combined the perfect mix of show tunes, pop hits, and a little bit of fun and chat throughout.

The show opened with Collabro’s backing band – expertly led by their musical director, Ellie Verkerk – easing us in gently to the signature track from the musical Beauty and The Beast. The guys then took to the stage with a beautiful rendition of ‘This is the Moment’ from the musical Jekyll and Hyde.

This was soon followed by a moving version of the classic Cats show tune ‘Memory’ which I think Elaine Paige herself would’ve been proud of.

Collabro then switched to a more modern theme, giving us ‘Shallow’ which was perfectly adapted to their voices from the original duet of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper that we’re mostly familiar with.

More magic from the musicals followed… a couple of firm audience favourites from Les Miserables, plus wonderful twists on Coldplay’s haunting ‘Fix You’ and a goosebump-inducing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the blockbuster movie, Titanic.

The whole show was a treat for the ears, eyes and soul – Collabro clearly have a very dedicated Suffolk following who were quick to show their appreciation by getting out of their seats to deliver a standing ovation.

They then stayed on their feet to dance and clap their way through a fantastic encore of a medley of up tempo hits from The Jersey Boys.

Thank you Collabro, hopefully it won’t be ‘A Thousand Years’ before you grace Ipswich again with more ‘Music of the Night’.
