The New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich has announced that next month they will host a week filled with comedy stars from 3 – 6 November, including world renowned comedians Hal Cruttenden, John Smith and a two-night visit from the world-famous The Comedy Store.
Firstly, stand-up comedian and actor John Smith, who is well known across the worldwide Deaf community, will bring his show The John Smith Show to Ipswich on 3 November at 7:45pm. The event will be performed entirely in British Sign Language.
John Smith has toured in the USA, Europe, Australia, and many other countries and appeared in the Irish Afternoon Show on RTE, in Doctors on BBC1 and in the BSL Zone comedy drama Still Here, for which he won the Best Actor award at Ippocampus Cial Milan, Italy in 2012. He also appeared in all three of the Four Deaf Yorkshiremen films and all films in BSL Zones.
Next up, the world-famous The Comedy Store will take over the New Wolsey Theatre for two nights with The Best in IMPRROV with The Comedy Store Players on 4 November at 7:45pm and Comedy Store On Tour on 5 November at 7:45pm.
Still undeniably the greatest improv troupe anywhere in the world, The Comedy Store Players have been delighting audiences on 4 continents for over 30 years. The Best in IMPRROV with The Comedy Store Players will see the near-original cast strutting their stuff on the New Wolsey stage with lightening quick reactions and world-class silliness. There will be improvised songs and games and of course, the audience is always at the helm, leading the show with its suggestions and demands.
The Comedy Store Players line-up on 4 November will consist of: Ruth Bratt, Steve Edis, Josie Lawrence, Neil Mullarkey, Andy Smart and Richard Vranch.
Comedy Store On Tour sees four of the world-famous Comedy Store’s best and brightest stand-up comedians take to the stage for two hours of belly laughing comedy. No subject will be safe, and no one will be left behind in the comedy night for grown-ups, promising that “Friday nights have never been funnier”.
The specially chosen performers for 5 November are: MD Paddy Lennox, Jimmy McGhie, Abigoliah Schamaun and Emmanuel Sonubi.
Finally, Hal Cruttenden is one of the top touring stand-up comedians working in the UK and Ireland, and he will bring his show to Ipswich on 6 November at 8:15pm.
He’s toured extensively in the UK and Ireland over the last 8 years and has also taken shows to the Montreal, Melbourne, and New Zealand comedy festivals. He has also recorded three stand up specials for Next Up – ‘Tough Luvvie’, ‘Straight Outta Cruttenden’ and ‘Chubster’.
He is also no stranger to television, having made several appearances on ‘Live at the Apollo’ (BBC1 & 2), ‘Have I Got News For You’ (BBC1), ‘The Royal Variety Performance’ (ITV1), ‘Would I Lie To You’ (BBC1) ‘The One Show’ (BBC1), ‘The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice’ (BBC2 & Channel 4) and ‘The Apprentice: You’re Fired’ (BBC2).
Hal even wrote and starred in his own sitcom, ‘Hal’ on Radio 4, and his next tour, ‘It’s Best You Hear it From Me’ will begin in 2022.
Tickets for all shows are now on sale and can be purchased at wolseytheatre.co.uk or by calling the theatre’s box office at 01473 295 900.
