Concerts at St Andrew’s Church

The autumn series of Sunday Afternoon Concerts at St Andrew’s Church, The Street, Rushmere St Andrew begins on 30 September with a concert that was originally scheduled for the spring series but had to be postponed because of illness. Well-known local sopranos Julie Roberts and Daniela Bechly, accompanied on the piano by me, will be performing songs, arias and duets by Bizet, Delibes, Mozart, Richard Strauss and others.

On 7 October the distinguished concert pianist Christine Stevenson makes a welcome return visit to Rushmere with a programme of music by Schumann & Chopin, while on 14 October the Oxfordshire-based vocal and instrumental trio Musical Banquet dishes up a Baroque-style feast for the ears. On 21 October William Baldry, organist of St Mary-le-Tower Church, Ipswich, performs works by J.S. Bach and his contemporary Dieterich Buxtehude among others, and the series ends on 28 October with uplifting choral music by Chilcott, Tavener, Whitacre et al. sung by the all-female vocal ensemble Equinox Voices.

Each concert starts at 3pm and lasts approximately an hour. Admission costs £6, including delicious homemade refreshments, and under-18s are admitted free of charge.
