Boys Day Of Dance
The all-male dance company which wowed a sell-out audience at Norwich Playhouse and shared a stage with the world-renowned Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures is holding its first Boys Day Of Dance.
Legacy is set to encourage more young male dancers to come and find out more about what they do with the special event at The Garage on Norwich’s Chapelfield North on Saturday August 5.
Running from 10am, it is aimed at six to 21-year-olds who will be split into different groups according to their age.
They will have the chance to try out different dance-styles, meet new friends, gain more experience and have lots of fun.
Professional choreographer and dance teacher Cat Chapman, who heads up Legacy, said:
“We are doing this for two reasons. Firstly, we are really keen to show what we do and this taster day will give a flavour of that. The members of the company try many different genres of dance and work with some incredibly respected choreographers from across the UK throughout the year as well as take part in many activities and boost their confidence and fitness.”
“Secondly, we have six of our members heading off to dance college and drama school in September so this will give us the chance to discover what other male talent is out there, so come along and join us. We would love to find out who else would like to be part of Legacy.”
The company was formed after the trail-blazing sell-out production of Lord of the Flies came to Norwich. It featured a cast of professional dancers from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures company who were joined by young male performers drawn from across East Anglia.
Cat, who was one of the locally-based Ambassadors who found and trained the young dancers, then set up Legacy to continue the work with the help of funding from Arts Council England and Norfolk County Council, plus support from Norwich Theatre Royal and The Garage.
As well as taking part in regular company classes, workshops with guest choreographers and specialist sessions, Legacy have also performed on stage at the Theatre Royal and the Turnstyle dance festival as well as wowing a capacity audience in their very first exclusive show Odyssey at Norwich Playhouse.
Legacy Dance Company presents Boys Only Day of Dance on Saturday 5 August, 10am-3pm at The Garage, Chapelfield North. Ticket £25. Book now at www.legacydancecompany.co.uk.
