Never Too Old To Dance

Are you, or is someone you know, interested in the exploration and participation of older people in dance? Host on Tuesday 5 July has been organised by DanceEast’s over 50’s performance company, The Elderberries, as part of this summer’s Move | Be Moved Festival which runs from 1 to 6 July. The event is for older dancers, as well as practitioners, leaders and choreographers, and those working with older people.

Host is a one-day platform that will explore and discuss current attitudes towards older people in dance from a performance context, focusing on the artistry of choreographing with older bodies. Ticket holders will have a choice of workshops to attend, led by dance artists Danielle Teale, Mary Davies and Tom Hobden, with presentations from Sonia York Pryce and Jennifer Jackson who will discuss current issues from artistic and academic perspectives.

Sonia York Pryce, who is currently studying for a PhD in the Mature Dancer, said

‘’Mature dance in general is amazingly important both mentally and physically. I think getting the message out into the wider dance sector and educating younger dancers will be extremely valuable in the years to come.’’

A facilitated panel discussion will take place after the presentations and to end the day there will be a sharing of performance work and film by The Elderberries, Counterpoint, Damn Fine Dance and others.
