Run

International award-winning 2Faced Dance Company, headed by artistic director and choreographer Tamsin Fitzgerald, brings the world premiere of RUN to Ipswich, a triple bill of new works by three world class female choreographers!

The evening of dance features three brand-new commissions from choreographers Tamsin Fitzgerald, Lenka Vagnerová and newcomer Rebecca Evans, exploring human choice and our decision to fight or take flight from the darker side of humanity. With ground-breaking movement and theatre, designs and original musical composition, RUN promises to be an exhilarating evening of contemporary dance theatre. 2Faced Dance Company are taking the lead in responding to serious concerns about the lack of equality faced by female choreographers in the dance sector.

The RUN tour succeeds two influential events for the company, beginning in January with a British Council cultural exchange programme in India, which aimed to raise the profile or female choreographers and promote gender equality internationally, and the birth of The BENCH programme, which aims to influence change and current behaviours within the UK dance sector. Speaking about RUN as part of an already exciting year for the company, Tamsin Fitzgerald, artistic director of 2Faced Dance, said:

‘‘RUN marks a pivotal point for the company within both our history and the important work that we are leading on within gender equality. Having launched The BENCH and following our recent visit to India, we are really starting to see a spark of change surrounding the barriers faced by female choreographers working within the dance sector.”

Lenka Vagnerová, whose work explores the physical capabilities and boundaries of man’s body, said:

“I am curious to see how audiences react to an all-female choreographed bill, and if the choice of topics, movement qualities and theatrical situations are gender influenced… My intention is to find different layers and connections in mythological fallen angels and human beings in order to explore the choice of good and evil in our lives and life path. Our society is full of fallen angels…”

For the RUN tour, five outstanding dancers will bring the choreographers’ works to life. Familiar to 2Faced Dance audiences are Jack Humphrey, Jason Boyle and Ed Warner. They are joined by company newcomers Louis Parker-Evans and Kai Tomioka. The latter of which, was a finalist in the 2015 BBC Young Dancer competition. Witness this high-energy, physical, athletic performance from one of the UK’s leading and award-winning, urban contemporary dance companies.
