Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band

Eliza and the 12-piece Wayward Band loved playing live together. It seemed natural they would set about recording an album. ‘Big Machine’ was the dazzling result, released on 3rd February 2017 by Topic Records. An especially popular track from the album is the single, ‘Hug You Like A Mountain’, which was written by the uniquely talented Rory McLeod.  Eliza is accompanied on her version of this uplifting song by Teddy Thompson (son of Richard and Linda Thompson)

In April, Eliza performed in Hull for their City of Culture coverage. She also appeared on Jools Holland’s BBC Radio 2 show. The bands summer festivals included Womad, Boomtown and Beautiful Day. The album has had press coverage from The Observer (5*), R2 Mag (5*), Mojo (4*), Record Collector (4*), plus Sunday Times, Sunday Express (5* – Album of the Week) & Financial Times, amongst others.

‘…when Eliza Carthy is at her best, there’s no one better. And this is Eliza Carthy at her best.”  – fRoots

Pioneering English traditional folk powerhouse, Eliza Carthy, first assembled the Wayward Band in 2013 in order to explore and celebrate her long and varied career in folk music; “the last truly underground music scene.” Since then, the band have become a festival favourite with audiences & critics alike. Winter 2017 sees their first major UK tour.
