Fantastic Folk at The Apex

by | Jul 13, 2026 | Featured, Music

The Apex will host an extensive run of folk and folk-rock concerts this autumn and winter, bringing together some of the genre’s most acclaimed songwriters, bands and traditional ensembles.

The season opens on October 1st with Grace Petrie, whose politically charged songwriting and sharp lyricism have made her one of the UK’s most talked-about independent folk artists. Her LGBTQ anthem ‘Black Tie’ has racked up 1.5 million streams, while her 2024 album ‘Build Something Better’ topped the UK’s Official Folk Album Chart.

Eddi Reader appears on October 17th. She was ‘Perfect’ as the Fairground Attraction frontwoman, while her subsequent solo albums show her ability to take different musical styles and make them very much her own, from the traditional to the contemporary.

Beginning life as a trio with Steeleye Span fiddle player Peter Knight, the Gigspanner Big Band’s high-energy, virtuosic seton October 26th will include BBC Folk Award-winning duo Edgelarks and Bellowhead co-founder John Spiers.

El Pony Pisador, on November 3rd, mix folk sounds from all over the world – Catalan songs and dances, Celtic and Mediterranean tunes, yodelling and Tuvan throat singing – resulting in a fun and energetic sound that’s full of personality.

Legendary 70s Tyneside folk-rock pioneers Lindisfarne bring unforgettable songs like ‘Meet Me On The Corner’, ‘Fog On The Tyne’, ‘Lady Eleanor’ and ‘Run For Home’ on November 5th.

Scotland’s premier fiddle collective, Blazin’ Fiddles (November 16th) mark over 25 years together with a selection of the fiddle’s diverse Highland and island sounds, with ensemble and solo-led sets backed by guitar and piano.

Steve Knightley and The Winter Yards Band breathe new life into Steve’s critically acclaimed ‘Winter Yards’ album in a rich, dynamic live experience on November 24th.

Spiritualized will perform a rare Acoustic Mainlines show at The Apex on December 9th. Accompanied by a string quartet, gospel singers and guitarist Tony Foster, J Spaceman plays Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized songs and various cover versions.

On December 16th, Cara Dillon and her band weave Celtic rhythms and ancient carols, reminding audiences that Christmas can still be a time of quiet reflection and profound beauty.

Albion Christmas on December 23rd sees Fairport’s Simon Nicol, Kellie While, Blair Dunlop and Simon Care, joined by Ashley Hutchings — founder of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band — for a mix of carols, spoken word and humour.

All performances begin at 7.30pm at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds. Tickets for all shows are available now via www.theapex.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01284 758000.
