Figurines

Lola Maury Productions head to Cambridge this November with a short dance work encouraging awareness, meditation and mindfulness. Set to perform inside Cambridge Buddhist Centre, Figurines, features in the Cambridge Junction dance programme.

Described as an exercise in transformation and perpetual movement, Figurines is inspired by whirling dervish dance. A dancer sets off on a spinning journey of becoming by shaping and re-shaping herself continuously.

Audience members witness the performer swirling through a never-ending flow of representations, to be lead on a meditative ride where images emerge, fuse and disappear relentlessly.

The performance experience promises to change your state of mind, asking you to stop for a moment, take a breath and get back into your body.

Producer, Helen Goodman, said: “When we discovered that the Cambridge Buddhist Centre was inhabiting a beautiful circular theatre, it felt really fitting to place Figurines, a show staged in the round and encouraging a communal experience, to sit within the space. The space itself is charged, intimate and asks you to slow down and contemplate, which are all elements of the piece as well.”

Audiences are also invited to join a meditation class, led by a member of Cambridge Buddhist Centre, before the performance of Figurines.

Lola Maury presents Figurines at the Cambridge Buddhist Centre on Saturday 10th November, at 3.30pm & 5pm (Running Time 25 mins).
