Des O’Connor & Jimmy Tarbuck

They are two of the most popular stars in show business and are set to share their memories of the entertainment world in an exciting new show heading to Norwich Theatre Royal.

Des O’Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck will join forces on stage on June 20th and bring some West End-style razzmatazz and entertainment to the city.

Des’s affable anecdotes and singing prowess will be matched with Jimmy’s charming banter and gag-a-minute routines for a show guaranteed to create lots of early-summer smiles.

And they will share stories and memories in the show which will be mixed with music and video.

Born in the East End of London, Des entered the entertainment world after completing his National Service.

Cutting his teeth on the club circuit, he then got his big break on television which made him a UK and then international star.

For 40 years, he has also been a top recording star beginning with his 1967 hit I Pretend followed by his chart-topping smash I Pretend.

The Des O’Connor Show was a mainstay of the small-screen schedules from the mid-Sixties onwards and the popular entertainer also co-hosted a popular ITV lunchtime magazine show with Melanie Sykes as well as taking the helm of long-running wordplay quiz Countdown for two years.

Meanwhile Jimmy started his showbiz career in a rock ‘n’ roll show at the age of eighteen before becoming a Butlins Redcoat in Brighton.

The mid-sixties also saw him become a household name thanks to the TV show It’s Tarbuck 65 before he later hosted a number of quiz shows including Winner Takes All. He also became a fixture of prime-time Sunday evening entertainment hosting ITV hits Live From Her Majesty’s and Live From The Palladium.

Despite their long and glittering careers, they had never worked together until 2015 on a show at the London Palladium which proved to be such a hit with the audience and critics that they realised they had strong on-stage chemistry.

John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said:

“It is so exciting to welcome two entertainment giants and gentlemen of the showbiz world to the city. Anecdotes, music and laughter are guaranteed in what is sure to be an amazing evening.”
