McFly

Newmarket Nights saw the much-awaited return of McFly this weekend as racegoers were treated to a mix of some of the band’s newer and most-beloved songs.

McFly’s infectious energy demands your attention when they’re on stage, from the moment they walk on, guitars already belting, you know you’re in for a high-energy show that will demand no less than all of your vocal cords and your best dancing shoes.

Listening to the likes of particular favourites of mine, ‘All About You’ for example, really made me wish the band could record their entire discography again… in a good way! Their voices have improved incredibly from when they first came on the scene as teenagers, their harmonies were impeccable, their timing on point and their love for the crowd was unmatched on the night.

Their set saw them return to some fan-favourite hits like Five Colours in Her Hair, Lies, Lies, Lies, and Obviously while also playing some newer hits of the band and their own spin on familiar UK Chart Toppers like Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling and Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, which even had the non-McFly fans jumping and singing along in glee.

One particular super-fan of the band, seven-year-old Audrina Hatton-Wright, had the night of her life when she was brought on stage with the band to perform her own rendition of All About You, which won the hearts of every member in the audience, an experience which, no doubt, every fan dreams of happening. Not to be outdone, we even saw a brief appearance of drummer Harry Judd’s daughter Lola as she joined her father on the drums for a few moments.

The band was always interacting with the lively crowd, playing games like ‘finish the song’, and clearly enjoyed every moment of being back on stage after a long break, almost as much as the crowd enjoyed them being there. The band members were cheeky, funny and somehow managed to make you feel as if you’d been their friend forever. It was a show that had many who were travelling home still talking about, long after the last note had played.

A special mention should go out to the staff at Newmarket Race Course, who were especially friendly and helpful throughout the entire day, making sure everyone stayed safe and well-entertained.

All in all, it’s clear that McFly has a passion for being on the stage and interacting with their fans… bird excrement on stage and all, it was a show not to be missed!
