The Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the second of its three Celebration Sunday afternoon concerts which will take place on Sunday, 28 May at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds.
‘Beethoven from 1806 to 1807’ continues the orchestra’s celebration of the evolving Classical style through the masterpieces of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Under the musical direction of founder and conductor, Leslie Olive, the programme promises to be of huge appeal to audiences and will feature Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, the Violin Concerto in D major and Symphony No. 4.
The acclaimed violinist, Yume Fujise, is the orchestra’s guest soloist for Beethoven’s Violin Concerto – widely regarded as one of the greatest of its kind. Yume began to play the violin at the age of three, studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and came to Britain as a pupil at the Yehudi Menuhin School. As a student of the Royal College of Music in London, she won the 2014 and 2018 Violin Competitions and the 2015 and 2017 Concerto Competitions. Yume has appeared live on BBC Radio 3 and has performed in major international venues, such as the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Suntory Hall (Tokyo) and Forbidden City Hall (Beijing).

The music of this concert, written during one of Beethoven’s most intensive periods of composition, promises widespread appeal to audiences. The Coriolan Overture provides a powerful opening to the evening, whilst the Fourth Symphony contrasts a darkly atmospheric introduction with a joyful and exhilarating fast section from the trumpets, drums, woodwind, and strings. The dazzling Violin Concerto offers a display of musical fireworks where the solo violinist plays spectacular cascades of scintillating sounds before relaxing into the most sublime melodies and musical textures.
