Hannah Sanders 2016 Tour

English folk singer Hannah Sanders is fast building a reputation as one of the most exciting singers of folk song around. Her debut Charms Against Sorrow was released in February 2015 to critical acclaim.

Hannah grew up travelling Europe singing unaccompanied folk songs in 4-part harmony with her family band, The Dunns. She then left music to pursue a career as a cultural anthropologist, becoming a leading expert on contemporary witchcraft and popular culture. She lived in Boston, MA where she sung with Liz Simmons (Low Lily).

Her recent return to Britain coincided with a return to folk singing, accompanied on baritone dulcimer and guitar. Following two well-received EPs (Warning Bells and Fate) debut album Charms Against Sorrow, produced by Ben Savage (The Willows), was released on Sungrazing Records on 2nd February 2015, with the album’s opener I’ll Weave My Love A Garland previewed on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show.

The album showcases a stunning voice of unaffected beauty, with a range, elasticity and purity so rarely encountered in the modern folk landscape. Equally adept at delivering love songs like I Gave My Love a Cherry with intimacy and simplicity as she is at telling a dark murder ballad like Miles Weatherhill with real intensity and drama; Hannah’s deep understanding of traditional song shines through. Influences from her life on both sides of the Atlantic can be heard throughout her arrangements, which breathe new life into a collection of well-loved folk songs. She is joined by Jon Thorne (Lamb, John Smith, Martha Tilston) on double bass, Evan Carson (The Willows, Sam Kelly) on percussion, Anna Scott on cello and Ben on dobro and guitar.

Rapidly becoming known for her captivating, intimate live performances, Hannah is touring the UK in 2016, both solo and accompanied by Ben Savage throughout.
