Connor Adams

On the 29th July, Connor Adams is set to play the John Peel Centre, and he will be supported by Underline The Sky and Sim Pattison.  Ahead of the gig we caught up with him for a chat during which he looked back back on his EP ‘Locked Doors’, teases us about his upcoming music and shares his Desert Island Discs…

To those that haven’t heard you before, how would you describe your music?

The technical answer would be Pop/Singer-Songwriter. However, there’s several different types of genres that I listen to and that influence my writing. Whether its the Foo Fighters, Stereophonics or Ed Sheeran, I just write what I love and hope everyone else digs it too!

Your EP, Locked Doors, has been out a while now – if you had to sum it up in 3 words, what would they be?

Raw, real & amassivelearningcurve (that’s one word right)? Haha! To be honest with you, there’s a lot of things I wish I could change with my EP ‘Locked Doors’. They’re the first 4 songs that I wrote in my bedroom and self-released. I look at it like this; the difference between Locked Doors and the new music I’m creating now is professionalism.

It has to be noted that Ed Sheeran is a clear influence in your sound, and recently live looping has hit the headlines following his stint at Glasto – how did you come to discover looping?

I discovered through the man himself, he gave me great confidence to play the crowd. It made me realise that singer-songwriters can make people sing and dance like your at a rock concert. In the future I see myself playing with a band behind me, but for the current stage I’m in having the loop pedal is great for me!

Following on from that, what inspired you to want to use this technique?

It made me realise that singer-songwriters can make people sing and dance like you’re at a rock concert. In the future, I see myself playing with a band behind me, but for the current stage I’m in, having the loop pedal is great for me!

Having been making music for some time now, what advice would you give to aspiring young musicians?

Write as much as you can as often as you can. Take every gig that gets thrown your way!

You’re one of the artists linked with IEM – could you tell us a bit more about them and your involvement?

IEM have always been great to me, it’s allowed me to build a following, improve my live performance and market my music to thousands of people.

You’ve got a gig coming up at the John Peel Centre on the 29th, with some great support – tell us why people should come and see you…

I’ll be showcasing some brand new music, playing a whole new set with some big surprises in. It’s just going to be one massive party, which I think every show of mine should be. My job is to make people smile and dance, forget about what’s happened in the week and just have a good time!

Sounds good to us! You’ve played the John Peel Centre a few times now, but aside from this lovely venue, has there been a highlight venue or gig in your career so far?

There are so many, but one that sticks out to me is a festival stage on The London Bridge which was pretty surreal, that was certainly a gig I’ll never forget!

Following the John Peel Centre gig, what’s next on the agenda for you?

Releasing brand new music, within the next few months there will be a single out for you all. I’m over the moon with this new record, I’ve honestly never worked so hard on something and I’m really proud of it. Its been a long process and we aren’t at the end of it yet, but I know this will be the start of something great.

We shall look forward to it! Now, for a fun finale… for your desert islands discs, which 3 songs would you take with you?

Mr Writer – Stereophonics, Ed Sheeran – Photograph & Slow Dancing in a Burning Room – John Mayer
