A Transatlantic Evening

The Georgia Shackleton Trio present this very special one-off collaborative Transatlantic Session, at Norwich Arts Centre on Thursday 15th June.

Featuring Norwich’s own; Alden, Patterson and Dashwood, and US old-time duo; Hen’s Teeth. The evening will feature a set from each act, presenting one-off formations of GST + APD, as well as a collaborative big band performance with the three bands joining each other on stage.

Featuring fiddle, mandolin and guitar, The Georgia Shackleton Trio performs a blend of Americana, folk and self-penned tunes and ‘wordy songs about other people’. Whilst instrumentally influenced by British, American and Scandinavian folk traditions, Georgia blends these with a distinctive regional twist from her native East Anglia. The trio sees her teaming up with guitar powerhouse Aaren Bennett and mandolin ace Nic Zuppardi.

2016 saw GST performing main stage slots at Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Towersey Folk Festival, and Folk East, as well as performing throughout Broadstairs Folk Week amongst many others. fRoots branded them “Sparky, charismatic and intensely assured”. Alden, Patterson and Dashwood are a Norwich based folk/Americana trio that weave rich vocal harmonies, fiddle, dobro, guitar and mandolin around original songs and melodies. Their music takes influence from both sides of the Atlantic with uplifting instrumentals and self-penned songs depicting tales of young travellers, sleepy seas and their affection for home. In 2016 they released their debut album, receiving great reviews…and have a great 2017 lined up ahead of them!

Described as “lovely stuff” by Mark Radcliffe (BBC Radio 2 Folk Show), you can find out more about them at www.aldenpattersonanddashwood.com

Hen’s Teeth is a new duo featuring Jane Rothfield and Nathan Bontrager, two powerhouse and inventive American roots musicians who specialise in old time Appalachian music. They first met at the legendary Clifftop festival in West Virginia, where they spent hours exploring cello, fiddle, banjo and guitar combinations as the musical sparks flew! Hen’s Teeth make music that’s firmly rooted in tradition, combined with their own inventive and unique styles. Janie and Nathan both sing, and they each play fiddle, banjo and guitar too (not at the same time!). With the addition of Nathan’s cello, the instrumental and musical combinations are practically limitless!

This is American roots music at its most dynamic, full of power, soul, and whimsy. See more at www.janerothfield.com
