Alan Bonner at The Quay Theatre Sudbury
Alan Bonner is a south coast based Irish songwriter with a growing reputation…
“Alan Bonner has the means of a pauper but sings with the heart of a king” is what one critic wrote of the English musician’s 2nd album Balladeer in 2013. Since then his starving artist status is yet to change, but his postcode has. Recent years have seen him playing the bars of Berlin, tread the boards at Ronnie Scotts in London, top bills at music festivals in Italy, busk on street corners in Dublin and tour the USA.
Spring 2019 see’s the single release of “Heartshaped” (released via AWAL on Mar 29th) a low- fi pop gem with an uplifting radio friendly chorus and an ear worm of an organ riff.
The single comes off the back of 2018’s Songs in the key of Sea – The Galway Bay EP recorded in Ireland which landed the singer BBC and RTE2XM radio airplay as well as some stellar reviews in the likes of Hot Press and Clash Music Magazine.
Bonner has also founded legendary music nights in Berlin at Laksmi & Alaska Bar, attracting musicians and performers from all corners of the globe and continues to tour regularly around Europe with concerts in the UK and Ireland booked in for the Spring with more to follow throughout the year. He is also in the process of making his next long player which will co- inside with a show intended for the Fringe Festival circuit in 2020.
Prior to this, he has toured extensively across the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia and the USA. He has received airplay on BBC6 Music and MTV Italy and appeared in Grazia, Gay Times, Attitude, Time Out London and RTE Ireland. He has has released the albums Songs for the Heartshaped (2008) Balladeer (2012) and Night Music (2016) to favourable reviews.
“A deeply independent artistic voice, the songwriter’s openly emotive work recalls Rufus Wainwright in its coy melodrama, or even aspects of Elton John’s golden run.” – CLASH MUSIC
