Born in Wales during the war before moving to Merseyside, Charlie says he was brought up in a very musical household. His brother taught him a few guitar chords at the age of 14 and from there, he was hooked continuing to play during time in the Army.

When he left a few years later, he successfully auditioned for a band in Germany called Chicago Sect performing with them for around nine months before returning to his native Birkenhead a married man.

Charlie got a number of what he called ‘proper jobs’ while continuing to perform as a hobby and it was his song-writing which began to get him noticed. He ended up becoming a big-selling performer in his own right, with his recently released 2016 album Live From Philharmonic recorded in his native Liverpool proving popular.

His son Charlie Jr said:

“My father is so grateful to the people who have helped him on his way from the first ripple of applause in a smoky Birkenhead saloon and the first words of encouragement from friends and family, to the fans that he cherishes today.”
