Esther Yoo & the Royal Philhamonic Orchestra
Violinist Esther Yoo to perform at Cambridge Corn Exchange with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
On Saturday 5 May 2018, Michal Nesterowicz conducts Esther Yoo performing Glazunov’s rarely heard Violin Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cambridge Corn Exchange, the latest concert in the 2017/18 Cambridge Classical Concert Series.
A BBC Young Generation Artist from 2014 to 2016, Esther Yoo is the Corn Exchange’s current Artist in Residence whose passion for music education is shared by the Corn Exchange’s Composer in Residence Jay Richardson. During the concert on 5 May, the orchestra will perform a specially commissioned new work by Jay Richardson, written in response to an innovative music education project involving young people locally; a partnership between Cambridge Live, the RPO, Cambridge & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, and the Phoenix Centre.
The programme opens with Greig’s Holberg Suite and concludes with Brahms’ sublime Symphony No. 1, with Glazunov’s passionate and haunting Violin Concerto as the centrepiece.
After the concert, Esther will head over to the Cambridge Union for an informal Classical Late event at which members of the audience can find out more about Esther and her life in music. Corn Exchange Composer in Residence Jay Richardson will also be taking part in this event, along with some musical friends. The Classical Late is free of charge to concert ticket holders and pre-booking is recommended.
Tickets (£32 – £42, Students and Under 16s £12.50, Under 26s £12.50 in zones B & C) are available from Cambridge Live Tickets on 01223 357851 or online at www.cornex.co.uk
