European Union Chamber Orchestra
The acclaimed European Union Chamber Orchestra will perform the latest concert in the 2015/16 Cambridge Classical Concert Series on Friday 5 February 2016, at the Corn Exchange.
Boasting not one but two soloists – harpist Catrin Finch and flautist Fiona Slominska – the concert offers an evening of pure musical enchantment with works by Bach, Mozart, Debussy and Haydn.
One of the most accomplished harpists of her generation, Catrin Finch brings great subtlety of interpretation to Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp before doing full justice to the rich harmonics of Debussy’s Danses Sacre et Profane. Directed by Hans-Peter Hofmann, the concert opens with Bach’s instantly recognisable Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and concludes playfully with Haydn’s Symphony No. 55, ‘Schoolmaster’.
A pre-concert talk, with European Union Chamber Orchestra’s Managing Director Ambrose Miller and harpist Catrin Finch, will take place from 6pm at Heffers Bookshop in nearby Trinity Street and is free of charge to concert ticket holders.
The series continues with a visit from the Philharmonia Orchestra (2 Mar 2016) conducted by the world famous musician Vladimir Ashkenazy; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit makes a rare Cambridge appearance to conduct the Corn Exchange’s resident orchestra (1 Apr 2016); Dame Evelyn Glennie is ‘in conversation’ with special guest interviewer Libby Purves (26 Apr 2016); the renowned Moscow State Symphony Orchestra returns (18 May 2016) and the series ends triumphantly with Corn Exchange Artist in Residence Dame Evelyn Glennie playing alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, including a new work to celebrate the award-winning percussionist’s 50th birthday year (9 Jun 2016).
Individual concert tickets are available from £28.50 to £38.50, with tickets just £12.50 for Students and Under 16s and £17.50 for groups of 20+.
