On the 6th April, Ed Jones will be taking to the stage. Ed has been leading great bands for over 30 years. Ross Stanley is almost the house pianist and organist: a stunning performer. The terrific bassist Riaan Vosloo , and the award winning drummer (at 12!) Tim Giles completes the quartet.

The work featured will be the band’s new highly acclaimed album “For Your Ears Only” of which Ian Mann writes “Musically the album covers a broad stylistic, emotional, and dynamic range – it’s much more than just a ‘blowing session’, despite its obvious hard bop lineage.” John Fordham sums it up as “Freewheeling jazz with post bop swagger.” Tickets: £18.

John Law’s Recreations is a new project, playing well known tunes from the world of jazz and pop, featuring award winner saxophonist Sam Crockatt, along with Yuri Goloubev on bass and Billy Weir on drums/percussion. Catch them on the 13th April for just £15.

Londoner John Law was a child prodigy, who went the Royal Academy aiming to be concert pianist. He turned to jazz in 1983, during further study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He is now one of Europe’s leading jazz pianist/composers.

In this project, the quartet develop other composer’s well known tunes from the world of jazz, pop and classical music. They could include tunes, by the Beatles, Sting, Adele, etc. Tipped for the gig are a baroque version of Summertime and a funky version of In The Summertime, from the Quartet’s just released second CD.

Much like Fleece Jazz, Sam Crockatt is a Parliamentary Jazz Award winner. Yuri is an “Honoured Artist of Russia”. Billy studied at Birmingham Conservatoire’s renowned jazz course, where one of his tutors was Clark Tracey.

Gill Manly has been singing jazz and blues for over 35 years and “Going Home” is her 4th album release, but is her first blues CD and first live recording.

The rich tradition of blues and gospel music was always a huge love, and Gill views all blues as a form of folk tradition, the formation of her acoustic blues trio lends itself beautifully to that genre. But make no mistake – Gill’s eclectic approach to song choice means she has delved into composers such as Dory Previn, Doc Pomus, Bill Withers, Percy Mayfield, as well as Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Mississippi Fred MacDowell.

Trevor Hyett is a multi-instrumentalist, Thomas Coffey is a guitarist, both are vocalists and they have played with Gill for years.For £18, don’t miss your chance to see her on the 20th April.

On the 27th April, Barb Jungr returns to the writing of Bob Dylan again and again to explore the richest veins of inspiration. Fortunately Barb also returns again and again to the Fleece to share these treasures with us. As the New York Times wrote Barb can “squeeze more juice out of a Dylan song than just about anybody”.

Joining Barb is Australian pianist Jenny Carr who has worked extensively with her over the years and always provides sensitive accompaniment with increasingly jazz infused solos overlying her classical roots.

Completing the line-up is creative, self taught bassist Dudley Phillips who has worked regularly with many singers including Amy Winehouse, Bill Withers and of course Barb. His teacher is to be congratulated. Tickets: £20.

All are expected to provide a great evening of jazz!
