Grainfest 2017

This years Grainfest at Geldeston Locks Inn, Beccles, takes place on the bank holiday weekend, 27th-28th May, and is expected to be their biggest gathering of ale, bands and people so far.

In a weekend of music and real ale, its a celebration of the synergy through the centuries between grain production and processing, the waterways of the Waveney Valley, beer and The Locks Inn.

Luckily their closest brewery, and the one located in the valley, is a multiple award winning Grain brewery. They will be  setting up a marquee beer tent with their ales and a lot of guests beers from the regions breweries, alongside their country fast-food stall and tasty pub-grub menu. The two day event will open from midday each day, with the Saturday running from 12-11pm and the Sunday from 12-6pm.

On Saturday 27th, the event will be compered by Richard Penguin from Future radio, and his quirky band with offbeat songs and stories PENGUINS GO POP will be kicking the event off at 1pm.

They will be followed at 2pm by melodic indie-pop band THE BUTTERFLY TRAP and then up and coming  local outfit THE REVELATION BROTHERS will take to the stage around about 3pm.

DAISYHEAD who play 60s inspired psychedelic pop will be on just after 4pm, and will be followed by former Farmers Boys members Stan, Baz, Mark and Robert, alongside Justin in their Americana and Country inspired band THE MCGUILTY BROTHERS just after 5pm.

To finish, the big finale around 8pm will be WAXIES DARGLE – Irish drinking and traditional folk (punked-up a little). There’s not a better way to finish a beer festival and the perfect lead-in to the Sunday’s music – in fact, their front man, John Adams, may do a bit on the Sunday too.

On Sunday 28th, FolkEast will be taking over the days events and the day will begin with a couple of wonderful gentlemen called FADED GENES at about 12.30pm, it will then lead into folk and morris dancing, that local morris man Eammon Andrews is organising.

FINN COLLINSON who makes modern folk utilising new technology will be onstage around 2pm, and will be followed by highly acclaimed trio and winner of Froots magazine Editor Iain Anderson’s album of the year for 2016 ALDEN PATTERSON & DASHWOOD at around 3pm. Further acts are to be confirmed.
