May Bank Holiday Bish Bash
Bishops Stortford’s own music festival – the BISH BASH – returns to Sworders Field in the town centre on the early May Bank Holiday weekend Friday/Saturday of 8th/9th May. With over 50 acts over the weekend, BISH BASH will be commemorating the 75th Anniversary of VE Day and celebrating its 20th birthday.
Punk legends Buzzcocks head the bill on Friday. Their bittersweet poppy songs such as Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve) and Everybody’s Happy Nowadays made the band one of the most influential of the punk era. Friday’s line-up also includes a tribute to the great Dolly Parton, local 90s hip hoppers Collapsed Lung and 50s style rockers The Hawkmen.
On Friday, VE Day, the festival will commemorate 75 years since the end the Second World War in traditional manner with a bugler and piper, and there’ll be a street party theme to the festival.
The Bish Bash celebrates its 20th birthday in style on the Saturday with EMF kicking off with their only UK show before jetting off to Canada to headline Shine Festival. Their hit Unbelievable, one of the biggest anthems of the 90s, was the first of 9 top 40 hits. Joining them are Britain’s “nicest band…..in tank tops”, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican, and Slady, an all female tribute to Slade.
Throughout the weekend there will be the usual host of fantastic local acts, comedy, and children’s entertainment.
Tickets are available online at https://www.stortfordmusicfestival.org.uk or from Bishop’s Stortford Tourist Information Centre.
