New Crawdaddy Blues Club Update

Whilst there are no gigs at the New Crawdaddy Blues Club – the music hasn’t stopped completely so here’s a couple of local gig news and a brief mention of this year’s UK Blues Challenge…

TRIBUTE TO DR JJ…

As many of you will no doubt recall, Dr JJ sadly passed away in 2015 after a long battle with asbestosis. Therefore, his family and friend had organised a memorial gig on the 21st July to celebrate the life of the unique & ever popular Dr JJ who, with his excellent band, played the Club many times. However, unfortunately this has now been cancelled

But it’s not all doom and gloom because you can still buy a copy of the new Dr JJ’s Blues Band live CD which was released in May 2016 and, along with Dr JJ, features his great band – Timmy Moore, Paul Jobson, Grant ‘Cheeky’ Tunbridge and Ed Collins with special guest Peter Harvie. Recorded in 2007 but not released until now, this is British blues at it’s best and a wonderful memento of this excellent band and the charismatic Dr JJ. The bonus track ‘Nothing Takes the Place of You’ was recorded in 2014 and was and was the last recording JJ would make. Regular listeners to Digital Blues will have heard me playing tracks from it over the last year or so.

The CD is well produced and a lovely memento of JJ – it will make you smile, and maybe also make you cry!  It also has a beautiful foreword from Doc Cox. It’s worth every penny, and for a good cause as all profits from the sale of this CD will also be donated to the two charities (The June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund’ and St Elizabeth’s Hospice, Ipswich) in memory of Jim.

If you would like to buy a copy, contact Jim’s wife, Carole by email to: thatsvinyl@btinternet.com,The CD costs £10 + £1 p&p which you can pay by Paypal or bank transfer. Carole will give you the details.

LIVE AT EMMANUEL: BETH NIELSEN CHAPMAN

A very special gig is coming to the area, as organised by Paul Carr, which as he puts it: this is a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to see Nashville based country superstar and twice Grammy-nominated Beth Nielsen Chapman play in Billericay on Wednesday 26th July as a ‘warm-up’ to her appearance at the Cambridge Folk Festival the following weekend. It’s also just been announced that Beth will be supported by Ruth Trimble.

Catch Beth Nielsen Chapman at the Emmanuel Church in Billericay on Wednesday 26th July 2017. Tickets are £25 plus fees, more details here revpacman.wordpress.com/live-at-emmanuel.

And finally, the UK Blues Challenge will take place on Sunday 10th September from 7.30pm at the historic Cavern Club in Liverpool – and promises to be a cracker! Visit the Cavern Club website or www.ukblues.org for more details.

Enjoy your summer and make sure you get out there and support live music!
