One Big Multicultural Festival in Ipswich

The 9th annual One Big Multicultural Festival is due to be held on Sunday 1st September in Ipswich’s Alexandra Park. The family-friendly multicultural event will see performers from around the world including, West Africa, China and India.

One of the first acts to be announced, for this year’s festival, will be the hugely popular Suffolk band – J S & The Lockerbillies. Although well-known locally, the band also appeared on stage at Glastonbury in June this year and are fitting in this important festival alongside their other many musical commitments this summer.

“This is a great festival all about bringing people together from a whole host of cultures. A love of music is something we all share. JS and the Lockerbillies are planning to rock your socks off with a collection of cult classics, shaking show-stoppers and rocking rollers from the golden age of living.”

Josh Locke

Back by popular demand and compering again this year is BBC Radio Suffolk & Northants presenter Wayne Bavin.

Entrance to the park is completely free for the whole family with live entertainment throughout the afternoon on stage starting from 12noon. This event, which is celebrating its 9th year, celebrates the diversity of Ipswich and indeed Suffolk and attracts over 8,000 visitors each and every year.

Organised by BSC Multicultural Services, it is supported by the Arts Council. The family-friendly event also hosts a range of stalls offering visitors a chance to sample cuisine from around the world, a market bazaar, a five-a-side football tournament as well as a demonstration of the energetic game of Kabaddi – the national game of Bangladesh. There’s also a funfair on the day with bouncy castle too.

BSC Multicultural Services, formerly known as BSC (Bangladeshi Support Centre) is a charity who work with groups and individuals to advance education and empower individuals; providing information, help and support and challenging disadvantage and discrimination in a culturally sensitive way.
