Palomar in Beccles

Beccles Public Hall is supporting people with memory loss.

Since the Public Hall team has been successful in their bid to become a Dementia Friendly organisation to fund a support group called Forget-me-not at the Hall twice a month (on the first Tuesday and third Monday in the month), support has been steadily growing.

There’s a really great varied programme of entertainers lined up. On Monday 19th June, 2pm, the Beccles Public Hall will welcome the amazing Palomar – a terriffic Benny Goodman style chamber jazz trio. Ray Simmons is on piano, and he played with Ron Hockett and Craig Hipperson last July which was pretty much a sell-out at the Hall.

Forget-me-not clubs are run by Suffolk Age UK for people with memory problems and for family carers; and these clubs have become very successful.

The very popular group here in Beccles is supported by Vicky Hutchinson, Dementia Development Community Officer with Suffolk Age UK, who has been offering an interesting and lively programme of events every first Tuesday and third Monday of each month at Beccles Public Hall from 2pm to 4pm. Including R&R (Relax and Reminisce), memories through music and much more!

Sue comments:

“We look forward to welcoming new and existing people and we are so pleased to offer the Public Hall as a central venue for people with memory loss and their carers. There are great facilities at the Hall for live music and for other activities. All events are free and refreshments will cost just £1 for a hot drink and piece of cake. And a notable mention to Tesco, Beccles for supplying the group with cakes!”

Jenny added:

“Many thanks to Suffolk Community Foundation and Suffolk Age UK for their superb support to initiate this project and for the work they already do for people with memory loss and their carers.”
