The popular Psychedelic Shack night makes a one-off stop at the Red Lion in Woodbridge for a Halloween special.
Taking its starting-point from Norman Whitefield’s classic psychedelic soul track, Psychedelic Shack, DJ Ben Osborne‘s vinyl mix traces the influence of producer led music that followed Whitefield in soul, funk, disco, hip hop, electro and house. Like George Martin, Whitefield turned the studio into an instrument and part of the creative process, rather than just a booth to record sound in.
Ben Osborne is a DJ, writer, sound artist and founder of Noise of Art. He’s made numerous UK and international DJ appearances, and the Museum of London described him as being amongst “the people at the heart of London’s cultural life” on their Future of Clubbing panel, along with plenty of other positive remarks along the way.
Time Out says,
“[his DJ sets see] anything from classic techno, punk-funk, galactic house, deep down and dirty disco and other dancefloor dynamite do the rounds.”
Reviewing his sound art, CMU said they,
“seriously approve an audio/visual installation… in [which] Noise Of Art’s Ben Osborne presents music made using samples recorded in a Portuguese factory”.
New singer on the block, Caswell, will add her critically acclaimed vocals to the night. Having trained at BRIT School, this singer/songwriter was summed up by Hot Vox with the following praise: “Imagine Laura Marling’s unconventional song writing ability, sung with the power of Lauren Hill, beauty of Kate Bush and honesty of early Amy Winehouse”.
There will be prizes for costumes and further guests are to be announced.
The Psychedelic Shriek, featuring DJ Ben Osborne, Caswell and other special guests TBA will take place at The Red Lion, Woodbridge on Saturday 29 October from 7pm until late.
