Songbook Sundays moves home!

Following the success of Emily Dankworth’s recent gig there, Songbook Sundays has now relocated to a new home in the beautiful ballroom of The Athenaeum, Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds.

The format remains the same; The Chris Ingham Trio are joined by guest singers from the world of jazz in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, with refreshments available.

Brigitte Beraha sings Love Songs from America and Brazil on Sunday 22 January. One of the most versatile and exciting vocalists to emerge in the UK in the last decade, Brigitte has performed with many jazz luminaries, including Kenny Wheeler and Bobby Wellins. Enjoy her dazzling performance with the beautiful love songs of the American and Brazilian songbooks.

On 19 February, Tammy Weis (“Isn’t she great! Now there’s a vocalist” – Michael Buble) sings ‘The Music of Julie London’. Born in Canada and London-based, Tammy is an established songwriter and was nominated as Best Jazz Vocalist in 2010. Today she applies her celebrated intimate singing to the songs associated with the “girl with the come hither voice”.

Saxophone alumnus of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and an in-demand jazz singer at Ronnie Scott’s, Jessica Radcliffe interprets the sophisticated, bluesy songs of one of the great American composers in ‘The Harold Arlen Songbook’ on 19 March.

Joan Viskant bringsThe Songs of Peggy Lee’ on 16 April. With fans ranging from Michael Parkinson to William Shatner, Joan’s CDs have featured as Album of the Week on BBC Radio 2 and Jazz Fm.

Songbook Sunday in The Athenaeum starts at 11.30am. Tickets are £10 in advance from The Apex Box Office, or £12 on the door.
