Sound City Ipswich

Sound City Ipswich announces full line up

Sound City Ipswich takes place on 4th October, and is set to be the very first music festival and industry conference of its kind in the town.

Sound City Ipswich is a partnership between the organisation behind the famous Liverpool Sound City festivals, Out Loud Music CIC and the team at The Smokehouse music venue in Ipswich, with support from Arts Council England and Ipswich Borough Council.

The festival will be held across four walkable locations in Ipswich, including The Smokehouse (80 capacity), the Manor Ballroom (200 capacity) and the Corn Exchange (950 capacity) with an outdoor stage on the Cornhill.

Tickets are available at just £15, and are currently on sale here. SCI wristbands will provide entry to all of our venues, however due to capacity restrictions we cannot guarantee entry to venues. Disabled customers are entitled to a free PA ticket.

2018 Mercury Prize nominee Novelist is a grime MC and producer from Lewisham, South East London. He was a founding member of The Square crew and was nominated for Best Grime Act at the 2014 MOBO Awards.

Sound City Ipswich is supporting local artists: with mainstays of the local gig circuit, the Manningtree-based band Dingus Khan playing alongside Bury St Edmunds’ garage-punk rockers Gaffa Tape Sandy, Ipswich’s Bessie Turner and John Peel favourites, The Stupids.

Working with BBC Introducing in Suffolk, the Sound City Ipswich programme will include an outoor stage on the Cornhill featuring emerging regional bands curated by Richard Haugh and Angelle Joseph from BBC Radio Suffolk. This stage will be free to attend. Confirmed acts on this stage include Suffolk noir pop musician Eloïse, alt r&b inspired Conner Nunn, conscious rapper EL-Emcee, disorientating rock from Ghosts of Men and indie pop four piece Swimsuit Competition.

Music industry conference:

Sound City Ipswich’s conference will take place from 11am-5pm at Ipswich Film Theatre and will feature panel discussions and conversations with artists and industry figures.
