Uke East: 22nd – 24th September 2017
After the successes of recent years, Uke East returns for it’s 4th year. With ukulele talent from around the UK, Uke East is a Norwich ukulele festival for players and non players alike.
Starting in the Coachmakers Arms on St Stephens Rd on Friday night, the first event is an Open Mic and “strum-along”.
On Saturday there are a variety of workshops covering singing, ukulele technique and song writing. During the afternoon, Aubrey and Zelda host the Moonlight Lounge which showcases local ukulele talent including Himazas, Blue Luna, The Norwich Ukulele Society and Zip Pain.
In the evening the main stage presents ENNÉ, Peter Moss, AD Cooke, Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers and The Poor Boys Of Worcester MC’d by the versatile Desmond O’Connor. During the evening there’s a raffle of ukuleles and paraphernalia and there are stalls selling a wide range of instruments and other goodies.
The weekend ends on Sunday morning with a mass busk in the streets of Norwich.
As interest in the ukulele continues to grow, Uke East brings visitors from outside the region to Norwich and has become firmly established as an event on the ukulele calendar in the UK. With the help of funding from Norfolk County Council and the Arts Council, Uke East is already in conversation with Artists from Germany and Italy for next year.
