Unfortunately we couldn’t squeeze this story into our February issue so let us tell you about this gig that is happening in Lowestoft this coming Saturday.
On 17th February, Suffolk folk singer and songwriter, John Ward, will host a special music day at CAMRA award-winning pub, The Stanford Arms in Lowestoft. The aim is to raise money for the Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s £1m appeal to purchase precious land that will expand and combine Carlton and Oulton Marsh reserves.
Starting at 2pm, the music will run continuously until 10.30pm with John and musical friends and guests providing the entertainment. To add an extra dimension and hopefully encourage more donations, John will aim to play all day, either solo or guesting with other musicians. People may donate in advance through the Music Marathon for the Marshes Justgiving Page, buy a request on the day, sponsor John in his challenge, or throw some money in the bucket at the pub. David and Sam Burd, who run the Stanford Arms, have generously offered a donation from the day’s profits so, the more real ale you buy, the more money for the local wildlife and environment! No better excuse required!
Several excellent bands and performers have already booked themselves to come and play, with more to follow. Come along and support this excellent community cause, take part or just enjoy the entertainment of a day of spontaneous music-making.
If you wish to contact John about the event, please email via John’s website www.johnward.org.uk or the event’s Facebook page
