Woodbridge Art and Music Festival
The annual Woodbridge Art and Music Festival brings international acts into Woodbridge for the third year running, between 26 – 29th August.
Plus this year’s festival will follow on from a London launch party at the Big Chill Bar, Brick Lane, on Friday 26th August; where festival founder, Ben Osborne, has a long running residency.
The festival will for the first time include a day of free music in Elmhurst Park on Saturday 27th August, followed by the customary events in different venues around the town in the evening (including the likes of The Riverside, The Red Lion, The Table, The Anchor and The Community Hall). A second day of events will kick off at the Tea Hut on Sunday 28th August.
Woodbridge Art and Music Event is a weekend of music and cross platform art held in the medieval market town of Woodbridge, on a salt water river on the East Coast. It features innovative acts from a broad range of musical genres and is organised by electronic music and art collective Noise of Art.
Previous years have included world renown acts such as Orbital, Danny Rampling, Polar Bear, Coldcut, , TY, The Woodentops, Justin Robertson, Red Snapper, Diesel, The Reflex and many more.
This years event is just as exciting, as we can reveal some of the line-up: –
Celebrated London DJ, Diesel (of chart topping dance act X Press 2), is to play the third annual Woodbridge festival this August bank holiday.
He will be joined by Balearic disco legend Phil Mison, who recently dropped his Ibiza and London duties to play a headline set on the “In The Woods” stage at Latitude.
Joining Phil on the bill are The Woodentops, who also headlined at this year’s Latitude Festival on the Alcove stage.
Amongst the overseas acts are Faroe Isle band Orka*, who are famous for creating their own, often bizarre, instruments and have been described as a “unique force in music” by music industry bible CMU. They stop off in Woodbridge after a year of global touring supporting their critically praised LP Vao and have just been nominated Nordic Council Music Prize – previous winners have included Björk.
Seminal 1960s electronic band White Noise are also famous for creating their own instruments. They will debut a new visual show at this year’s festival.
Amongst the local bands playing are electronic improvisation band Deben Collective, electro sea folk band Aatrwork, drum ‘n’ bass DJ Cartel, Italian house DJ and London Social resident David Agrella, soul duo nonsuchdjs, Woodbridge singer song writer Peter Hepworth and celebrated jazz singer Kelly Pritchard and guitarist Kevin Walford. Festival curator DJ Ben Osborne will be returning to play his residency at The Riverside for one of the celebrated Club Nights on Sunday 28 August.
The event is curated by DJ Ben Osborne, the founder of Noise of Art, who says:
“It’s great to be back doing a third year of the Woodbridge festival, in venues such as The Riverside and Table, not to mention the stunning Elmhurst Park, which will be free for the first time this year. Diesel and I will be doing a back to back session on Saturday night. We’ve played DJ tag together many times over the years, but this will be the first time we’ve done this outside a London club. We’ve also got PhIil Mison, renown Cafe Del Mar, Ibiza, sundown DJ spinning a sunset DJ set at the end of the day in the Park. And we’ve got the usual mixture of top live bands and DJs playing everything from folk to hip hop, house and drum n bass.”
Ben Osborne has programmed major events at Latitude, Tate Britain, the Southbank Centre (Queen Elizabeth Hall), Big Chill Festival, The Great Escape, Convergence Festival, National Portrait Gallery, British Film Institute and many other places. As a DJ, amongst the people he’s played with are acts such as The Beatles (official launch party DJ), Laurent Garnier, Booka Shade, Groove Armada, Andrew Weatherall, Andy Barlow (Lamb), La Roux, Ed Sheeran and many more.
