Zoe Gilby heads to St Peter’s by the Waterfront

Parliamentary Jazz Musician of the Year, Zoe Gilby, takes her wonderful sound on the road throughout 2020 with a plethora of gigs and festivals already lined up and is heading to Ipswich on February 7.

Having begun the year performing at her local Jazz Café in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, early focus has been on the impending release of The Aurora Project, that, alongside another later in the year, a focus for Zoe as she continues her musical path with aplomb.

Ahead of her trip to Ipswich, she spoke of Aurora, saying:

It’s been a real treat to record nine of these amazing Tom Harrell compositions in just two days straight after new year.

“Laying the tracks down in the fabulous Loft Recording Studios in Newcastle, I cannot fault this studio, it is brilliant and the Recording Engineer, Adam Sinclair, was superb whilst the musicians really did bring it all to life.

“It was a relaxed yet a super-productive session with Mark Williams (guitar), Noel Dennis (trumpet and flugelhorn horn), Andy Champion (double bass), Russ Morgan (drums) and myself on vocals, singing the lyrics which I wrote for a project that is so dear to my heart and one which we can’t wait to release in the spring.”

In heading to Ipswich, the third time she’ll have performed in the Suffolk town, Zoe will be performing as part of her quartet alongside Mark Williams (guitar), Andy Champion (double bass) and Richard Brown (drums).

“This will be the third time my quartet will be returning to the wonderful church that plays host to many live music event,” added Zoe.

“I’m really happy to be a part of their ‘Jazz by the Waterfront’ programme which is always a great night, fantastic natural live acoustics.”

In performing what is a story-telling, atmospheric repertoire, Zoe’s impressive back catalogue includes a blend of the contemporary, from Kate Bush to Pink Floyd, alongside a rather sensitive treatment of the jazz standards she loves so much.
