London Ballet Company Present Premiere Performance in Bury St Edmunds

London Ballet Company make their first visit to The Apex on 31 October, with a double bill which includes the premiere performance of their new show, A Little Princess.

The show is based on the children’s novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, who also wrote Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Secret Garden. First published in 1905, A Little Princess is a riches to rags to riches story about a generous and compassionate girl who loses everything except her kind heart – enduring a life of poverty until her fortune is restored.

The dancers of the London Ballet Company hope to inspire with this tale of courage in adversity. Sara and her mother sail from India, where Sara joins a new school and makes new friends. However, when Sara’s mother falls sick, everything changes… until friendship and resilience save the day.

Given the proximity of Armistice Day, the company will also perform their much-loved production, Poppy. The piece was commissioned to commemorate World War 1 and to highlight the devastation of war.

The London Ballet Company’s creation starkly portrays the havoc wreaked by global war on ordinary people. Seen through the innocent eyes of the child Poppy, we follow a family struggling to come to terms with the cataclysmic turn of events of 1914, as they seek to do their duty and rally to their nation’s cause. Family life is changed forever, and innocence is lost, however Poppy remains, like the flower for whom she was named, a symbol of hope and of remembrance.

London Ballet Company are at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 31 October at 3pm. Tickets are available from www.theapex.co.uk or 01284 758 000.
