Martin Taylor & Ulf Wakenius at The Apex

Two of the greatest jazz guitarists in the world, Martin Taylor & Ulf Wakenius, have joined forces for an unforgettable live show at The Apex on 6 March. They bring with them a unique legacy in European jazz, from years of touring and recording with Stephane Grappelli and Oscar Peterson.

Martin Taylor, MBE, is a virtuoso guitarist, composer and musical innovator, whom Acoustic Guitar magazine calls  ‘THE Acoustic Guitarist of his Generation’. Widely considered to be the world’s foremost exponent of solo jazz and fingerstyle guitar playing, Martin possesses an inimitable style that has earned him global acclaim from fellow musicians, fans and critics alike. He dazzles audiences with a signature style that artfully combines his virtuosity, emotion and humor with a strong, engaging stage presence.

Martin Taylor worked with Stephane Grappelli for 11-years, filling the guitar chair for Django Reinhardt. Pat Metheny has described Martin as “one the most awesome solo guitars players in the history of the instrument!”, while Jeff Beck declared “He out-shreds all of us put together… I´ve never seen anything like it.”

Swedish-born Ulf Wakenius is a jazz guitarist extraordinaire, acclaimed and celebrated all over the world. Ulf plays a broad range of music, but is best known for his straight-ahead and post-bop jazz work. Between 1997 and 2007 he held what may have been the most prestigious spot in jazz for a guitarist: a chair in the Oscar Peterson Quartet. Oscar even exclaimed: “Ulf Wakenius is one of the greatest guitar players in the world today!”

Taylor and Wakenius have also collaborated with greats such as Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Beck, George Harrison, Mike Brecker, Jamie Cullum, Ray Brown and Michel Legrand to name just a few.
