A warm welcome in the Burns recital hall awaited us prior to taking our seats in the balcony of this outstanding concert venue facility at the Royal Hospital School.
The opening number, performed by the RHS Big Band, created an upbeat mood for the evening and showcased the band members’ commendable accomplishments.
Matt Ford and the Chris Ingham Trio were soon introduced and began with a popular ‘Jungle Book’ favourite. Some well known Frank Sinatra ,Tony Bennett and Nat King Cole songs followed which demonstrated the real class of the performers. Matt’s repertoire was punctuated with some amusing anecdotes and occasional jokes; many of his audience evidently enjoyed his talk about the Alberta bear man and the account of the married couple’s conversation about those golf clubs!
Back to the music, Chris Ingham’s solo piano performances were indeed like being chauffeured through delightful scenery in a Rolls Royce (it brought back memories!) and Matt’s rendition of Moonlight in Vermont was a real
highlight. However, the finale of ‘Spiderman’ with the 19 piece Big Band provided a fitting roof-raiser and a happy audience departed complete and
content. Hidee hidee hidee hi, hodee hodee hodee ho !
