Norwich Venue Launches All-Female Panto

Poor Ella. She just wants to be a famous rock star, but her sour-faced sisters sabotage her dreams like little Simon Cowell’s. Can you help her headline the royal ball this Christmas?

All-In Productions, The Garage in Norwich and The Workshop in King’s Lynn are thrilled to invite families to have a ball with them at My First Panto: Cinderella Rocks – but the return of this festive show isn’t the only thing they’re excited about.

The fairy tale trope of needing a handsome prince has been shattered like a glass slipper, with this year’s panto featuring an all-female cast. Who needs a prince when you’ve got rock ‘n’ roll?

The show is led by actor-musicians Sarah Workman, Rebecca Levy and Norfolk performer Rhiannon Hopkins, who panto-lovers may remember from Sleeping Beauty at the Norwich Theatre Royal.

Aimed at ages seven and under, My First: Cinderella Rocks is the only panto in all the land that lets the audience get up and join in. So why not come rock out with Ella?

Full of singing, dance and play, it runs from 26 November 2021 – 16 January 2022 at The Garage with relaxed, socially distanced and BSL interpreted performances. Tickets can be booked via thegarage.org.uk or by calling 01603 283 382

Audiences can also catch it at The Workshop from 8-13 December 2021. Visit theworkshop.org.uk or call 01553 277 919.

Adam Taylor, The Garage Trust’s Executive Director, said: “Having reopened both sites for our new term of classes, being able to add some seasonal sparkle is the fairy on top of the Christmas tree for us. We can’t wait to hear the theatre full of children laughing, singing and having fun.”

Want to be part of the fun?

All-In Productions are looking for two young females under the age of 16 to play the role of Squeaker and Nibbles, two mice who help Ella on her journey to stardom. They will pre-record the voices for the mice puppets which will be operated by the cast during the live shows.

Squeaker and Nibbles are the best of friends, squabbling at times but care deeply for each other. They are fun, kind, humorous with a sassy streak and our young performers should have the same qualities with an ability to express themselves well with their voice as well as a great reading ability.

People should send a voice recording of no more than 30 second of themselves telling a story they love. It would be ideal if one performer was Norwich-based and the other King’s Lynn-based.

All-In Productions’ Daniel Burgess is writing and directing the show. He said: “I’m really excited to be able to offer this wonderful opportunity to two talented young people here in the east. They will work with the panto team to create the characters and have the chance to rehearse and develop their voice acting skills.”

Email info@all-inproductions.co.uk by 10 October but be quick – the early mouse gets the cheese. In person auditions will be on the evening of 15 October. Both roles are paid for opportunities.
