We all know the beloved Panto classic of Cinderella. The tale tells of the servant girl who dreams of a chance with the Prince – but is hindered by her evil Ugly Stepsisters, though helped along the way by her Fairy Godmother.
Enchanted Entertainment and the Ipswich Regent have pulled out all the stops for 2019 – with a greater touch magic. From glittering sets, great music, fun projections, colourful lights, snow, ponies and much more. The overall production values have improved greatly.
Everything you’d expect from a traditional panto is there! No cliche is left behind, so get preparing for those Boo’s, It’s Behind You! and Oh no it isn’t!
For many of the cast, it is their first dabble into the world of Panto. While Cleo Demetriou has been working in theatre, film and TV since the tender age of 6; she really shines as the role of Cinderella, with strong vocals acting skills throughout. Seasoned performer Adam Garcia nails the role of Prince Charming, oozing with a natural princely charm. Better yet, for fans of his work you are treated to songs from a couple of his most iconic West End roles, and gags referencing his career; and he seems to be loving it. S Club 7 fans will enjoy the chance to hear several hits from the group, thanks to Hannah Spearritt’s turn as the rhyming Fairy G.
The supporting cast and ensemble are equally fabulous. Paulus and Gavin Ashbury make an excellent team as the Ugly Stepsisters, and Ipswich Regent Panto regular Mike McClean keeps the energy up with regular chants and a mix of dry humour, classic gags and many new jokes.
Overall, it has all that you need for a great traditional panto and it’s bound to bring a bit of jollity to audiences of all ages. It was a packed house and I’m sure it will continue to be. Find your festive cheer and be sure to take the family to the Panto this season.
