Rip It Up

Having been a lifelong fan of Strictly Come Dancing, I’m always keen to have the opportunity to see any of the dancers when they deliver their ‘own’ dance show.

Last night’s performance of Rip it Up at Ipswich Regent was a little different though. Being that the three stars of the show weren’t Strictly ‘professionals’ – but were three previous celebrity contestants who’d gone on to either win or win the heart of the viewers.

Harry Judd, drummer with McFly, and Louis Smith, Olympic gymnast, both lifted the Strictly glitterball, while Aston Merrygold proved to be the people’s favourite and exited the show (in my opinion) way too soon.

Last night, however, all were absolute winners with a real feel-good show put together around a backdrop of a team of fabulous supporting dancers, an incredibly talented band and a male and female singer who brought the songs and the raw feel of the 60’s to life!

Harry took a turn on the drums, Louis took a turn on the pommel horse, and Aston took a few turns on the mike, especially pleasing the audience with his beautiful rendition of ‘Whiter Shade of Pale.’

An absolute cracker of a show which had me – and pretty much the rest of the crowd – on their feet with a spectacular final dance routine full of swinging 60’s glitz and glamour!
